Is information technology (IT) central to economic competition or is the $1.5 trillion spent globally by firms each year on technology simply glorified plumbing?

Diamond’s Digital IQ™ study asked 456 C-level business and technology executives this vital question, along with their beliefs about IT and business alignment, IT management, and the economic results of this massive investment.

The findings of this inaugural study are clear: business and IT executives have made tremendous progress toward aligning strategic intent and IT capabilities. But only 10 percent of respondents say IT projects consistently meet user expectations. What appear to be missing are several prerequisites for success: effective CIO leadership, a guiding enterprise architecture, solid IT governance, and truly flexible IT systems.
